REVIEW OF VOLTA

Although Volta opened in 2013, it is based on a former Reuters data centre which had been running here since the 1980s. The facility was completely refitted before opening, and now includes seven dedicated electrical transformers. These step down the dual 33kV power feeds to 11kV, and then on to five separate power strings. Three of these (A, B and C) support customer power. This level of electrical redundancy underpins the quality ethos of Volta.

The location of Volta is also a unique selling point: it is the most central data centre in London. It is within walking distance of the City, Tech City (located near Old Street roundabout), the media district in London’s West End, and Soho. Farringdon Station is about 10 minutes’ walk away.

Reflecting the length of time the Volta building has been a data centre, carrier choice is strong, with all key London carriers already on site. These include Crosspoint’s own dark-fibre ring, which runs directly to Telehouse and Telecity Harbour Exchange, as well as west to our locations in Slough and flagship data centre in Reading.
