REVIEW OF GLOBAL SWITCH LONDON NORTH

Global Switch London North opened in early 2000 and is based on a former newspaper printing works. One of the first tenants was Global Crossing. They took about a third of the 175,000 sq ft of technical space, and used it to terminate their new Atlantic Crossing/AC1 cable system. Global Crossing was acquired by Level3 in 2011, but remain in the building along with other large-scale tenants such as British Telecom and Zayo.

The carrier list at Global Switch London North is fairly good in terms of overall capacity. However, it lacks the depth of small customers with PoPs that is often found in our other Docklands based sites. As evidence of this, it ranks 11th on PeeringDB in terms of the number of peers in London data centres.

Significant upgrade potential exists in Global Switch London North. This would help raise the limited power densities that exist currently (a feature of the age of the site) and enable the customer list to grow.
